Self Assesment #1

Fall 2013, Marking Period #2

Due date: Dec. 6, Jan. 17

12/5/13

So far this marking period, I believe I have participated well because although I work at a slower pace than most of my fellow peers, I have managed to get pretty much everything done while still jumping out of my comfort zone and trying new things. I am trying my best to stay with the class and still produce quality, interesting artwork. I am used to having few big projects to work on for several weeks than many small home works and projects that take about a week or two to finish. I think this new style of learning is starting to help me be more creative because I have more opportunity to think of ideas. My performance has been taken to the next level in my painting skills by using new techniques we have learned in class such as using colors to display darkness other than black. I personally have discovered that my strength is in acrylic painting and drawing things that are in front of me to look at. An example of this would be the scenery painting. I have started to expand my creativity and try just going with the flow and drawing or painting whatever comes to my mind like what we did in class. I have also begun to use materials that are unfamiliar to me to make my work look different than usual and more exciting to look at.

Kelly and Jaide Collection

My thoughts before the investigation regarding materials and authorship were that this project would be very fun and original. With anyone working on whatever pieces they found interesting others made and adding their own creative, abstract twist on them, I thought there would be many beautiful, colorful pieces and I was right. There would be many different perspectives flowing and everyone would work off of each others ideas to compose a final product. During the investigation I discovered that everyone has their own individual and unique style and when they are all collaborated together, they can make an amazing piece of artwork. I also discovered that while I work on my artwork I need to be less concerned about staying in the lines and be more loose while I work. My thoughts now are that I need to be more creative in my artwork and use more abstract objects. Also I need to use more vibrant colors and different utensils in my pieces. When answering our essential question of what is art and who decides?, recording, presenting and archiving play an important role because we need to share, take notes, and listen to others criticism to see what things could be changed to the artwork to make it better. In future assignments I will listen to others opinions on how to make my artwork better because they may have a new and different perspective than mine which could help make my artwork more unique and original.

Collage homework

Catwoman had just gotten done saving the world again when all of a sudden, two girls came screaming running down their driveway, wearing the most fabulous UGG boots I've ever seen but that's besides the point, saying their dog was in trouble. Now Catwoman hadn't been able to eat lunch or dinner that day and it was almost eight at night and she was starving. Catwoman hesitated for a moment and then finally decided to follow the girls into the house to find the dog just chilling chewing on a bone. The girls were so relieved for just before they got Catwoman, it had been choking and near death. The girls felt bad for bothering Catwoman after her hard day of saving the world and offered her dinner at their house. Catwomen was so hungry she ate some of everything they had. She couldn't have been more happy with how her day worked out.
